* Nelson points out that Matthew and Mark have the name Thaddeus (Lebbaeus, surnamed Thaddeus) while Luke (in both Luk 6:14-16 and Act 1:13) has instead Judas (of James). They go on to point out that some think that Judas was thaddeus' original name, but it was changed to Thaddeus to avoid the disgrace attached to the name Judas through Judas Iscariot. Moreover, they believe that Bartholomew may be the disciple Nathanael (Jhn 1:45-59, Jhn 21:2).
